what would you do if you were given 100 million dollars to spend? I for sure, would get some new clothes, new gadgets, invest, a sweet holiday or maybe…

1. donate a large fraction to a few deserving charity causes

2. improve housing condition for certain areas, with lifts on every floor in every block in sg

3. increase the cap from $10,000 to $100,000 to each school in singapore who needs funding to help poorer students or maybe just improve new facilities

4. i’ll build a semi-Smithsonian standard type of museum here

5. pump it into the finance industry. maybe hoping that that will improve the situation, if not by a lot, a bit at least

6. help out young and budding entrepreneurs with the capital needed to start their dream business, which hopefully, might create more job opportunities

7. funding for some medical research

8. help those who are needy yet sick with diseases such as cancer, kidney failure, - sickness that require expensive treatments

9. increase doctors’ and nurses’ pay - (seriously, with the long hours they pull in hospitals, it’s not justifiable)

10. possibly use that to offset the money needed for young married couples who are looking to buy their first home

11. to really start improving the arts scene here like how it has been constantly promised yet you don’t see anything really happening

12. improve tourism industry by building more interesting places, i.e. sprucing up little india, chinatown, kampong glam, etc, etc and not by building more malls

13. make our public transportation system even better

14. provide educational help, more scholarships

15. improve public pools. create more and proper soccer fields. build more sports halls and stuff.

and the list can go on.and on. and on.

BUT what i WOULDN’T do with 100 million dollars would be this.

ST Electronics clinches S$100m contract to provide combat system
By Tang See Kit, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 08 June 2009 2022 hrs

SINGAPORE: ST Electronics, the electronics arm of ST Engineering, has won a S$100 million project to provide the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) with the Advanced Combat Man System.

The project will start immediately and is expected to be completed by 2012.

The combat system is being jointly developed by the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), the SAF and ST Electronics.

The system is designed to provide advanced fighting capabilities to soldiers.

It is part of the SAF’s Third Generation Transformation and is in line with its goal to progressively provide tactical units with network capabilities.

Okkkkaaayy…

Call me an idealist, a dreamer or perhaps immature. but to spend a huge sum of money to “provide advanced fighting capabilities to soldiers” because it is “part of the SAF’s Third Generation Transformation and is in line with its goal to progressively provide tactical units with network capabilities,” is absolutely questionable.

What exactly is this Advanced Combat Man System? What do you exactly mean by “providing advanced fighting capabilities to soldiers”? What does it entail? And to progressively provide tactical units with network capabilities? Again, what in the world is it?
